Reid's Career
Night Goes For Naught as Penguins

Tasha Reid's career-high 13 kills
were offset by four UIC players
posting double-digit kill totals as
the Flames defeated Youngstown State
in four sets in the Horizon League
opener for both teams.
Reid, a redshirt freshman opposite side hitter, had 13 kills
against four errors in 30 attempts.
Ebony Barbosa added a double-double
with 11 kills and 13 digs. Barbosa
connected on 11 of 25 targets and
did not have an error.
UIC hit .293 for the match while YSU was held to a .212
total. The Flames avoided the YSU'
block all match as the Penguins
registered a season-low three.
Katerina Hanackova had a match-high 17 kills for the Flames
while Katarina Nedeljkovic had 14
kills and 14 digs.
Senior Karla Everhart had 19 kills for the Penguins, and
freshman libero Amanda Gray had 11.
YSU led just twice early in the first set before UIC went on
a 12-1 run that gave it a 15-4 lead.
The Flames hit .500 in the set en
route to a 25-15 victory.
The Penguins trailed by as many as five in the second set and
were trailing 14-10 before rallying
to tie it 14-14 on Barbosa's serve.
The Penguins took their first lead
at 23-22 as part of a 4-0 run that
gave them a 4-0 win. Reid and Ruth
Boscaljon had back-to-back kills,
and Barbosa came up with a solo
block to set up Reid's kill on set
point.
YSU carried the momentum to take a 8-5 lead in the third set
before scored four straight and
never trailed again. YSU got within
one several times, including 24-23
on Haley Kapferer's kill.
Nedeljkovic answered with her second
kill of the match to give the Flames
a 25-23 victory.
YSU led 8-4 in the fourth set before UIC took its first lead
at 10-9 as part of a 7-1 run. The
Penguins tied the score at 11 and 12
but never reclaimed the lead as UIC
hung on to win 25-20.
