Boscaljon Earns Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week Laurels
Indianapolis -- Youngstown State senior Ruth Boscaljon has been named the Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week after a very impressive weekend, the conference office announced on Monday.
Boscaljon put on arguably the most outstanding display of her accomplished career in the Penguins' two Horizon League matches on Friday and Saturday. She finished with 44 kills against just four errors, and she hit .548 against Loyola and UIC.
Boscaljon notched 44 kills in two matches over the weekend. The senior middle hitter from Elgin, Ill., posted a season-high 24 kills in five sets against UIC and 20 in a four-setter against Loyola. Boscaljon added 11 blocks in the two matches to lead the Penguins to two wins. She went over 20 kills in back-to-back matches for the first time since her freshman year.
Boscaljon also continued her ascent up Youngstown State's career statistical charts. In the match against the Ramblers, she moved into third place in both career kills and career blocks. Boscaljon has 1,173 kills and needs 198 more to reach Amy Hermann's 1,371. Boscaljon's 428 total blocks are 49 fewer than Annie Buschur's 477.
The past weekend is only the latest highlight in Boscaljon's senior campaign. She leads the Horizon League in hitting percentage (.370) and blocks per set (1.19), and she ranks second in kills per set (3.35) and points per set (4.31). She is ranked in the top 60 nationally in both hitting percentage and blocks per set.
This is the first time in her career that Boscaljon has been named the Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week. She earned the weekly defensive honor once last season.
Boscaljon and the Penguins continue their Horizon League slate this weekend with matches at Milwaukee and Green Bay.
