Butler Rides Wolfe to Three-Set Sweep of Penguins

Indianapolis -- Horizon League kills leader Jessica Wolfe had 18 terminations, and Butler hit .303 to sweep Youngstown State 25-23, 25-19, 25-13 on Saturday at Hinkle Fieldhouse.

Porshia Allen added 12 kills, Maureen Bamiro had 10, and Katie Daprile had a match-high 27 digs.

Ruth Boscaljon had 10 kills while Allison Heinz and Haley Kapferer had seven apiece for YSU.

YSU dropped to 6-14 overall and 4-6 in the Horizon League. Butler improved to 16-10 and 6-3.

YSU led 23-21 in the opening set, but Butler scored four straight points out of a timeout to take the set 25-23. Butler led by as many as seven at 14-7 before YSU rallied to tie the score at 19 and take a 20-19 lead. Brittany Grove’s kill put YSU ahead 23-21, but Butler got kills from three different players and a block from that point. The Bulldogs had 20 kills in the first set.

A 4-0 run early in the second set gave Butler a 5-2 lead that it would never lose. The Bulldogs had 16 kills in the set and hit .282 as a team.

YSU trailed just 13-11 in the third set before Butler closed out the match by scoring 12 of the next 14 points. The Bulldogs hit outhit the Penguins .517 to .111 in the set with 16 kills against one error in 29 attempts.

Butler started 5-1 in the Horizon League before losing both matches in Chicago last week to UIC and Loyola.

YSU will play at Loyola on Friday at 8 p.m. Eastern.
