O'Hara Gets
Career-Best 17 Kills in Four Set Loss at
Valpo

volleyball team got a career-best 17
kills from senior Kaitlin O'Hara and
outhit Valparaiso .186 to .162 in a
four-set loss to the Crusaders on Friday
evening.
Haley Kapferer and Ruth Boscaljon added 10 kills apiece for YSU,
which also held a 17-6 edge in blocks. Valparaiso tabbed 15 more kills than the
Penguins, including 26 from Angie Porche.
YSU also committed one more serving error and had two more
receiving errors as Valpo won 25-22, 28-26, 19-25, 25-19.
Laurie Shives added 22 digs, and Brittany Grove had 17. Allison
Heinz and Boscaljon had match highs with eight blocks.
YSU led 13-7 early in the first set before Valpo rallied en route
to its 25-22 win. The Crusaders tied the score at 20 and scored seven of the final
nine points of the set overall.
The second set featured 12 ties and five lead changes before
Valpo prevailed 28-26. YSU led 10-7 early and 16-14 before Valpo rallied to take a
21-18 advantage. YSU staved off three set points before a Porche kill, her 11th of
the set, gave the Crusaders the win.
YSU led by as many as seven twice in the third set, 16-9 and
20-13, in its 25-19 win. Boscaljon had five kills, Heinz had four, and the Penguins
limited Porche to three.
Valpo led the entire fourth set and led 24-16 at one point.
The Penguins will look to get back on the winning track tomorrow
against Butler. First serve against the Bulldogs is set for 4 p.m.
