Women's Basketball: Cold Shooting
Dooms Guins in Loss to Green Bay
Youngstown --
The Youngstown State women's
basketball team suffered a tough
shooting performance en route to
dropping a 75-47 decision to Green Bay on Thursday
night at the Beeghly Center.
The Penguins
(10-11 overall and 5-5 in the
Horizon League) were within four
points midway through the first
half, but made only one field goal
the remaining 9:40 of the first
stanza and trailed by 14 at the
break.
YSU trailed
18-14 after Velissa Vaughn's hoop
with 9:40 left. However, UWGB (17-4
and 9-1) scored the next seven
points to go in front 25-14.
The Guins
trailed 37-23 at halftime. For the
first half, YSU made 6-of-26 field
goal attempts (23.1 percent), while
converting 3-of-15 from 3-point
range.
Toni Roscoe's
3-pointer was the only bucket for
the Penguins the final nine-plus
minutes. Roscoe's basket with 4:15
left made the score 27-19 in favor
of the Phoenix.
Green Bay shot
48.3 percent making 14-of-28
attempts. Both teams were perfect
from free-throw as YSU made 8-of-8
and the Phoenix were 7-fo-7.
In the second
half, Green Bay shot an impressive
53.8 percent from the floor while
the Penguins shot just 38.5 percent
from the field.
Junior Ashley
Pendleton led the Penguins with
eight points - all in the second
half - on 4-of-6 shooting and
grabbed seven rebounds.
The Guins
return to action on Saturday at 4:35
p.m. when they play host to
Milwaukee. |
