Guins Help Raise Funds at Children's Hospital Radiothon
Youngstown -- Members of the Youngstown State women's basketball team volunteered for a two-hour shift at the "Miracles and Promises" Radiothon at the Akron Children's Hospital Beeghly Campus on Friday.
The funds raised by the Penguins and all other funds gathered during the Radiothon will stay in the Mahoning Valley to benefit local children and families. The Radiothon, which will run through Sunday, features stories about local patients who have received services from Akron Children's Hospital. It will also spotlight Mahoning Valley services and programs.
"It was great to have an opportunity to help out with a worthy cause in the Youngstown area such as the Children's Hospital," assistant coach Shannon Sword said. "The ladies really got into the project and even starting calling family members and friends for donations."
The Radiothon was broadcast live on Mix 98.9 FM from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday. It will also run from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
The Beeghly Campus, located on Market Street in Boardman just north of the Southern Park Mall, has cared for more than 11,000 children in the Emergency Department and admitted more than 1300 children to the in-patient pediatric unit since it opened in December 2008.
Donors can call (330) 746-9090 or (888) 746-9890 during pledge hours. Donations can also be made online at www.akronchildrens.org/mv.
