Guins Help at Mount Carmel's Spaghetti Dinner for Second Year
Youngstown -- Coaches and student-athletes from the Youngstown State women's basketball team volunteered at September's spaghetti dinner at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church in Youngstown for the second straight year on Sunday.
All 12 players and the entire coaching staff helped serve approximately 900 people at the event, which took place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Social Hall. The team carried trays for elderly attendees, helped serve food, cleaned tables and trays, assisted in preparing food and greeted guests to the church's monthly gathering.
This was the third community service project the team has completed this semester. The Penguins volunteered at the YSU booth at the Canfield Fair two weeks ago, and they helped with the box office at the Augustana and Matt Nathanson concert on Aug. 27.
The Penguins completed 17 service projects during the 2008-09 academic year and received the Horizon League Community Outreach Award.
