Guins Complete Two Service Projects in Semester's First Two Weeks
Youngstown -- The Youngstown State women's basketball team has completed two community service projects in the fall semester's first two weeks, already setting a tone for what Head Coach Cindy Martin promises to be an active year in the community.
The Penguins completed 17 service projects during the 2008-09 academic year and received the Horizon League Community Outreach Award.
Most recently, the women's basketball team volunteered to work the YSU booth at the Canfield Fair on Wednesday evening. The Penguins student-athletes and coaches interacted with fair attendees, signed autographs and passed out giveaway items and game schedules. The Canfield Fair is in its 163rd year and averages 380,000 in yearly attendance.
The team also volunteered at the Youngstown State Welcome Week concert featuring Augustana and Matt Nathanson on Aug. 27. The players sold tickets, took tickets and checked student ID's. Coach Martin and the players were welcomed onto the stage and introduced themselves to the student body.
