YSU Freshman "Move-In"
In cooperation with YSU's
"Move-In Crew", Penguins student-athletes and coaching staff volunteered to help move freshmen into Lyden House on YSU's campus. The group unloaded vehicles, loaded carts and bins and guided new students to their rooms.

Spaghetti Dinner at Youngstown Church
Team members volunteered their services at the
monthly spaghetti dinner at Our Lady
of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic
Church in Youngstown. Student-athletes and coaches served around 900 people,
carrying trays for
elderly attendees, serving food,
bussing tables, cleaning trays,
assisting in preparing food and

"Chalk The Walk" in Tailgate
Lot
Senior

the Walk" activity. Children
aged 14 and under were
judged for their creativity
in a chalk drawing in the
YSU M-7 Lower Tailgate Lot
prior to the Penguins home
football game against
Liberty.

Project #5 - Oct. 4, 2008
"Coaches vs. Cancer" Walk
Student-athletes
participated in the
three-mile walk to raise
awareness for the fight
against cancer and helped
pass out snacks and
T-shirts. Coaches vs. Cancer is a national event, and more than 500
colleges across the country
participate. The program has raised
more than $40 million nationally
since 1993.

Trick-or-Treat Night
Student-athletes and coaches assisted elderly
residents with passing out candy to
a large group of area children who
came to the Trick-or-Treat night at
Sunrise Senior Living
nursing home in Poland,

Girls Basketball Clinic
Senior Nikita LaFleur
organized a free basketball
clinic for girls in first
through sixth grade. The
clinic featured different
stations and covered basic
skills such as
ball-handling, rebounding,
passing, shooting and
defense.

National Library Week at
Volney Rogers
Members of the Youngstown
State women's basketball program
spoke to students at Volney Rogers
Middle School in Youngstown for a community
service activity. Three groups of student-athletes spoke to three different
classes of fourth through eighth
graders.
