Seniors Kruse, Glanz Lead Teams at Horizon League
Championships
Indianapolis -- Youngstown State senior Nick Kruse
finished 22nd with a time of 27:15.40 to lead the men's team to a fifth-place
finish at the Horizon League Cross Country Championship on Saturday at Butler
University.
Senior Marielle Glanz placed 28th in 20:18.70 to lead the
women's squad to a sixth-place finish, a two-place improvement from the 2005
season.
"The women came through big get the program going back in the
right direction," head coach Brian Gorby said. "The men did a great job with
strong kicks to keep moving up during the race."
Butler swept the championships for the fifth consecutive
season, and seven Bulldogs placed in the top 11 spots in the men's race.
Dan Nemergut finished second for the men's squad in
24th-place with a time of 27:20.45 while J.D. Shepperd finished 32nd in
27:41.10. R.D. Goodright placed 36th in 27:48.15, and freshman Sean Finnerty
placed 44th in 28:01.95.
On the women's side, freshman Lisa Lee finished 39th in
21:07.50, and Madelyn McGhee placed 43rd in 21:27.15. Amy Moore finished 45th
with a time of 21:32.00, and freshman Jen Roman placed 53rd in 21:53.35.
The Penguins will compete at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional on
Nov. 11 at 11 a.m.
