Safe Zone

The Safe Zone project is an ongoing effort by YSUnity to make the YSU campus a safer place for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered, and questioning students.  Many LGBTQ students have questions or concerns Facualty, staff, RA's Peer Assistants may be able to address, or they may simply need a place to feel free of social pressures or physical threat.  Placing the Safe Zone sign in their window or on your door tells people that you are someone they can trust—someone committed to creating an environment in which LGBTQ people will be treated with dignity and respect.

National Coming Out Day

National Coming Out Day is celebrated October 11. It is a chance to be out and proud on campus. Every year YSUnity sets up a large display in Kilcawley. We use the chance to show YSU that there are gay and lesbian students here and we are a large part of the student population. It also gives other YSU students a chance to learn about our group and sign up if interested. YSUnity often gets a lot of good press for the event.

Panel Events

Panel events give us the chance to go into the classroom and present the students with a diverse panel of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender students. This gives them a chance to ask questions and learn about our community in a safe educational environment. Hoping that fighting ignorance will help put the end to homophobia.
