The ZTA Spirit Behind

YSU FOOTBALL
Since 1986, the Zeta Tau Alpha Youngstown Alumnae Chapter has shown spirit for YSU football.
In the stands of every home football game, Zeta Tau Alpha alumnae cheer on the Penguins.

YSU football is a Youngstown community tradition.  The YSU Penguins are 1991, 1993, 1994 and 1997 NCAA-1AA National Champions.  The YSU football program opened their '98 season with an expanded stadium.  The YSU stadium, known as the Ice Castle, went under construction changes to add east side stands and a "Walk of Pride."  The Walk of Pride consists of bricks individually purchased by YSU administration, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and the community. The donation from each brick went toward the stadium expansion project.  The ZTA Youngstown Alumnae Chapter takes pride in being part of this stadium expansion project. In the Penguin Walk of Pride, the ZTA Youngstown Alumnae Chapter has a "Zeta Tau Alpha" brick engraved.

Did you know that YSU is the only college/
university that has a penguin as a mascot?

For the past seventeen years, the Youngstown Alumnae and the YSU Office of Alumni Relations have worked toward creating a Homecoming experience involving not only Zetas, but recently, all Greek groups.  The Homecoming festivities have included letting off hundreds of balloons on the football field, assisting with the YSU Homecoming Alumni breakfast, greeting visitors at the YSU Alumni House, small tailgate parties, participating in the YSU Homecoming parade, and more.

.During the past few YSU Homecomings, the YSU Office of Alumni Relations and the ZTA Youngstown Alumnae chapter have decorated tents, collectively called "The Alumnae Village", near the tailgate lot areas.  Inside the Alumnae Village, Zetas and other Greek organizations welcome their collegians, alumnae, YSU staff, and other Greeks.  Food and sodas are provided by the chapter.

In October 2004, on behalf of ZTA and all Greek groups, the ZTA Youngstown Alumnae decorated a tent.  This marked the fourth year the ZTA Youngstown Alumnae played an active role in working to expand The Alumni Village at Homecoming.  The tent is positioned next to the All Greek tent that houses Greek organizations who do not have separate facilities at Homecoming.  After enjoying food and drinks, everyone attends the game together to cheer on a Penguin victory.  The ZTA Youngstown Alumnae extend a thank you to the YSU Office of Alumni Relations for their continued support in this YSU Homecoming festivity.

A new YSU Homecoming tradition is a "Big Fat Greek Reunion" that takes place Homecoming weekend.  YSU Greek alumnae gather for dinner, dancing, socializing, and showing off alumnae displays at an area banquet hall.
