Every October, the Zeta Tau Alpha Youngstown Alumnae Chapter and ZETA GAMMA chapter at Youngstown State University host the Pink Ribbon Cheer Classic, a cheerleading and dance exhibition to raise money for breast cancer awareness, research, and education.  Through the ZTA Foundation, millions of dollars are donated each year to support the ZTA philanthropy, breast cancer education and awareness.  ZTA collegiate and alumnae chapters participate in various projects for this cause, including the Yoplait Save Lids to Save Lives Campaign, The Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure, Don't Be a Fool (breast cancer awareness program), and hundreds of individual chapter events in cities across the country such as the Pink Ribbon Cheer Classic held in Youngstown, OH.
At the Pink Ribbon Cheer Classic, high school cheerleaders from Northeast Ohio and Western Pennsylvania perform a cheer dedicated in memory of or in celebration of breast cancer patients.  The cheerleading squads are judged in several categories with the winning team being awarded a bid to the national high school cheerleading competition.  In addition to performing cheerleading squads, thousands of spectators and hundreds of breast cancer survivors attend this event.
The cheerleading squads raise money for breast cancer research prior to the event. A concession stand, chinese auction and silent auction raise additional funds during the event.  Local businesses and individuals donate the items auctioned.  This year, the event net profit that will be donated to the ZTA Foundation is the closest the Zetas have come to achieving their $50,000 goal.  The event has raised over $150,000 since it's inception in 2001!
