Q. What, exactly,
is Tech Prep?
Tech Prep is an innovative educational program that begins in high school,
moving you smoothly along the pathway to a college degree and preparing
you for high tech careers.
Q. Who should apply to Tech Prep?
You should - if you like using your brain and your hands while you're
learning new ideas and skills, and can meet the minimum selection criteria:
· Grade-level math, science and English courses passed with a grade
of C or better in both 9th and 10th grades
· Demonstrated 9th grade competencies
· Not more than ten days absence during the three semesters of
9th and 10th grades without medical verification or counselor's explanation
· Ability to obtain high school counselor's recommendation
Q. Where is Tech Prep taught?
Students spend part of the day at their own high schools taking academic
classes, and part at a central site with students from other high schools
in hands-on, laboratory-based projects. The variety of sites includes
local businesses, Choffin Career Center, Mahoning County CTC, South Range
High School, Youngstown State University, Austintown Fitch High School
and Chaney High School.
Q. Does Tech Prep lead to a college degree?
Tech Prep combines specialized technical training and college prep academics
leading directly to a two-year associate degree.

Q. What, exactly, are my options in Tech Prep?
· A two-year associate degree,
· A four-year bachelor's degree, or
· Entering the workforce immediately after graduation. (You can even finance
your education with a good job using your Tech Prep high performance skills.)
Q. Is space in Tech Prep limited?
Students from all high schools throughout the area vie for only 20 - 25
seats in each section.
Q. Can I stay in extracurricular activities at my home school?
Tech Prep students are encouraged to continue to participate at their
local high schools in all extracurricular activities and sports.

See your high school counselor or contact the Mahoning Area Consortium
(MAC), at (330) 742-2331 at YSU. We're now located in Tod Hall, Room 301
on the Youngstown State University Campus.
Q. When Should
I apply for the Tech Prep Program?
You may apply for Tech Prep starting in January of your sophmore year.
We will accept qualified students until programs and/or sites are filled.
