Testing Department FAQ

Testing Department FAQ

Q: When are the tests available and what are the deadlines?

A: See the YSU Testing Calendar or call 941-3175.

Q: Can the Testing Office give me my scores?
A: No.  Test scores are not kept by the Testing Office.  Scores for entrance into a graduate program may be obtained through the particular graduate school you will be attending or through the national testing company that scored your test.  Scores for the CLEP, ACT, and the ACT Residual are reflected on your permanent record if you indicated Youngstown State as test score recipient.  However, to maintain privacy of your personal records, scores will not be given over the phone.

Q: How soon will I receive my score?
A: On average, 4-6 weeks.

Q: How can I register as a Standby?
A: See the Standby procedures, where applicable, in the respective test registration booklet.

Q: What is the difference between the ACT and the ACT Residual?
A: The ACT is a national test; the scores are reportable to any participating university.  The ACT Residual is given by YSU, and the scores are reportable to YSU only. Either test is accepted by YSU for admission.

Q: Does the Testing Office provide study guides or preparatory courses for the tests?
A: No. As a testing site, it is considered a conflict of interest to provide preparatory materials/courses for the tests.

Q: Can I take the GMAT at YSU?
A: YSU no longer offers the GMAT.  The GMAT is now offered in a computer-based format only.  Contact the Sylvan Learning Center in Niles, Ohio, or call the national testing company for more information.  (GMAT) 1-800-462-8669

Q: Can I take the ACT PEP at YSU?
A: YSU no longer offers the PEP.

The PEP is now offered only in a computer-based format.  Contact the Sylvan Learning Center in Niles, Ohio, or call the national testing
company for more information. (ACT ) 319-337-1363

Q: I am a YSU faculty member. Can I get my tests scanned here?
A: All scanning is done through the Comprehensive Testing Center.  Call 941-1344.

Q: How long is my test going to take?
A: These are approximations only. Remember you must allow time for check-in and test instructions at the test site:

ACT and ACT Residual: 3.5 hours
GRE: varies--refer to registration booklet
LSAT: 5 hours
MAT: 60 minutes
