Toward this effort, we have designed an enriching program to meet the academic and social needs of our participants.
The administrative staff at Upward Bound has worked diligently to create a positive and stimulating learning environment that accurately reflects the goals of the program. The overall goal of Upward Bound is to increase the rates at which under-represented students enroll and graduate from college. We achieve this goal by providing intensive academic instruction, counseling, and workshops. Students will also attend cultural and community activities promoting awareness of themselves, others, and their environment.
The offices of Upward Bound are located on the Youngstown State University campus in Jones Hall.

If the answer is yes, then Upward Bound is for you!
For consideration students must be:
In 9th grade for the 2008-09 School year enrolled at East or Chaney High Schools.
Be potential first generation college bound students and/or have a financial need.
Display academic potential and motivation in continuing education.
Be willing to participate in all aspects of Upward Bound at YSU.
Program Components:
After School Tutoring Program
Saturday Enrichment, Social Activities, College Visits6 week Summer Residential Program
All Upward Bound activities occur outside of the student's regular high school day.
Students continue to attend classes at their home school as they do now.

Instructional Tutors will assist Upward Bound High School students at Chaney and East High Schools after school during the academic year.
