Students enrolled in Upward Bound receive a monthly stipend to offset the cost of transportation and other expenses. Stipends are distributed at the end of each month. In order to earn the stipend students must attend the following activities:
- Coordintor Sessions twice per month
- Saturday Enrichment twice per month
- Tutoring Sessions as assigned
- ACT prep weekly (only applicable to Juniors from January through April)
- Senior Sessions as scheduled
Stipends are calculated as follows:
100 - 93% attendance = $40.00 Stipend
92- 85% attendance = $30.00 Stipend
84 - 77% attendance = $20.00 StipendStudents are permitted 2 excused absences, in which status is excused, rather than absent. In this case the participant has notified the Upward Bound Department ahead of time and has a legitimate reason for inability to attend (ie - sickness, family commitment). After missing two sessions a student will be marked as absent and will not receive credit for attendance that day.
Inability to secure transportation to any required Upward Bound event is not an excuse, as the stipend is provided to offset the cost of transportation.
Students are excused for extracurricular activity games days and performances. Although students are not excused for extra curricular practices, a tutoring agreement for limited participation may be provided under special circumstances.
Stipend do not exceed $40.00 per month Amounts are not carried over from one month to the next No stipend is given during a suspension from Upward Bound or during the probationary period, which is the first month in the program Students are to pick up their own stipends, parents are not permitted to do so If a stipend is not picked up after 14 days, it is returned to the Upward Bound budget
