Youngstown State University offers high-quality
education at an affordable cost. But the best part is that
you can get all kinds of financial assistance to help you
get where you’re going. A few examples of what you’ll
find in YSU’s scholarship drawer:
• Scholarships for Excellence—based on academic
performance in high school. Awards range from full-ride University
Scholars awards (about $13,000/year) to awards of $4,500,
$2,500, $2,000, and $1,500 a year, based on ACT or SAT scores
and high school rank or GPA. The University awards these scholarships
to incoming students; the awards are renewed each year you
maintain your academic performance at YSU, up to four years.
• Literally hundreds of private-donor scholarships
are available in smaller amounts. Search the offerings at
www.ysu.edu/finaid.
• The Martin Luther King Achievement Awards are given
to students from 18 area high schools. These scholarships
of up to $1,500 a year are awarded on the basis of financial
need.
• A need-based Housing Grant provides up to $2,000
a year for eligible students who wish to enjoy all the benefits
of living on campus.

Tuition and fees at Youngstown State have been kept below
the state average to allow increased access to a high-quality
university education.With a continuing decline in state support,
all universities in Ohio have been forced to increase tuition,
yet YSU still remains one of the best values in the state
—and often for western Pennsylvania residents as well.
