SEMESTER COURSE REGISTRATION
During the ninth week of each semester, current students will receive a letter by mail informing them of their appointment time and directions regarding locations for Schedule of Classes pickup. Once students have the registration information, they should develop a tentative schedule. Registration is by appointment. The appointment schedule is located on the back of the Schedule of Classes. Students register according to the total number of hours completed. The University uses military time for registration, e.g.

Students register for classes by using the SOLAR (Student On-line Advisement and Registration) system. Please refer to the Schedule of Classes for instructions.

Students requiring academic advisement must see their advisor prior to their registration appointment. This includes all students with less than 32 semester hours completed, returning former and transfer students, all students on academic probation and warning and all athletes. See your advisor for course approval and to secure any necessary permits before your registration appointment. Note: Students are required to enter their tentative classes (on the SOLAR Advisement Screen) before seeking this approval.

FULL-TIME STATUS
A full-time student is one carrying 12 or more semester hours per semester. To complete a baccalaureate degree in four years, students need to complete a minimum of 16 semester hours each semester. A part-time student is one carrying 11 semester hours or less.

PREREQUISITES
Students may not receive credit for a course that is a prerequisite for a more advanced course which they have already successfully completed. Prerequisites for all courses are listed in the University catalog. It is the student’s responsibility to meet all course prerequisites. The SOLAR registration system does not check prerequisites to courses. Courses taken without proper prerequisites will not be used towards graduation requirements.

COURSE NUMBERING SYSTEM

The catalog number identifies the courses offered. Courses with catalog numbers 1500 through 1599 are designated as freshman level courses; from 2600 to 2699, sophomore level; from 3700 to 3799, junior level; and from 4800 to 4899, senior level. The freshman and sophomore levels (1500/2600) are Lower Division courses, and the junior and senior levels (3700/4800) are Upper Division courses.

The Course Code identifies the specific sections of a course (i.e., time, day, instructor and location) in a particular semester. See an example below.

PERMITS
Permits for the Business Core courses (Finance 3720, Management 3725 and Marketing 3703) are required if the student does not have a declared business major (Pre-Business is not a declared major.). The academic advisors issue permits for Business Core courses during the registration period (Room 408 Williamson Hall). Management 4850, Strategic Management, always requires a permit prior to registration. Students enrolled in the associate degree programs must always request Business Core permits from an academic advisor prior to registering for these courses. (See Associate Degree Requirements.)

Closed Class Permits for business courses are issued by WCBA department chairs. They grant permits for exceptional reasons to graduating seniors after all sections of the course are closed. Students should first consider registering for the same course at a different hour or for an alternate course.

ADD/DROP
Classes may be added only during the official add/drop period as posted in the academic calendar and listed in the Schedule of Classes. Classes may be dropped during the first eight weeks of the semester. Students who need an advisor’s approval for registration (refer to “Changing Your Registration” in the Schedule of Classes) must have an advisor’s approval for adding courses.

WITHDRAWAL
W represents a withdrawal properly processed at any time from the end of the full-refund period through the last day to withdraw with a W (refer to the Schedule of Classes for the official add/drop dates). Withdrawal thereafter (or improperly done, at any time) is recorded as F. If the grade resulted from special circumstances, a student may petition the WCBA Academic Administrator of the Undergraduate Advisement Center to change the grade to W (see Late Withdrawal).

If you stop attending a course without formally withdrawing from it, you will be responsible for the tuition and will receive a final grade of F in the course.

LATE WITHDRAWAL
Students will be permitted to withdraw without a penalty from classes beyond the eighth week only for non-academic reasons beyond their control. Written verification for the request will be required. Anticipation of a failing grade is not an acceptable reason. Applications for this petition may be obtained from the Academic Administrator in the WCBA Undergraduate Advisement Center. The final approval for accepting or denying the request is made with faculty approval and the Dean’s authorization.
