MBA Curriculum
Program Description
The MBA program prepares students for increasing levels of managerial responsibility. The program provides qualified students with broad-based knowledge of accounting, finance, management, marketing, and their interrelationships and applications.
MBA Mission
The mission of the MBA program is to provide students with broad-based knowledge and problem-solving skills in key functional areas and the opportunities to apply their knowledge and skills in a variety of business situations. Our graduates are able to identify complex problems, conduct critical analyses, and make informed and ethical decisions in a dynamic, global environment.
Degree Requirements
The MBA program consists of 30-48 semester hours (s.h.) of graduate work depending upon undergraduate preparation. Students who have met Level I requirements as a part of their undergraduate degree may be eligible for waivers.
Level I
Level I: MBA Foundations Courses - 18 s.h.
Level I courses provide the basic tools necessary for advanced study in business. (Each student's undergraduate transcript is evaluated to determine if the following foundation course requirements have been met; if so, waivers may be granted.)

Admissions Information
Application and Registration Information
MBA Program
Applications should be submitted at least one month prior to the beginning of the term I which the student wishes to begin coursework. An applicant will be evaluated for admission to the MBA program once all application materials are submitted to:

Application Requirements (http://www.ysu.edu/Grad School):
1. Completed Application for Graduate Admission, printed legibly or typewritten, accompanied with a $30 non-refundable application fee (submit to the Bursar’s Office).
2. All applicants to the MBA program should submit a resume and a letter of application stating professional goals and objectives.
3. Official transcripts from each college or institution attended, except YSU; transcripts must be sent directly from the institution to the School of Graduate Studies. Failure to report all previous university attendance may result in cancellation of the application or dismissal. Personal copies of transcripts are not acceptable.
4. Official score report of performance on the Graduate Managements Admission Test (GMAT) sent directly to the School of Graduate Studies.
5. International Students Only - Official copy of TOEFL score report sent directly to the School of Graduate Studies.
Upon review of the student’s transcript and GMAT score by the MBA Coordinator and MBA Director, a recommendation regarding the student’s acceptance will be made to the Graduate Dean. The Graduate Dean will notify the student of the admission decision.
Admission Requirements
The MBA Program is open to qualified men and women who show promise of success in graduate business study. Prior academic work in business subjects is not required for admission into the program.
Registration
New graduate students are required to meet the MBA Coordinator before completing registration. Current graduate students are mailed the MBA schedule of classes prior to the registration period and schedule their classes via the YSU website. The advisor for the MBA students is the new MBA Coordinator. Students are responsible for adhering to the policies, procedures, and course prerequisites or outlined in the Graduate Bulletin and other MBA program documents.
A registered student who wishes to change his/her registration may do so through the first week of classes. Changes can be made via the YSU website, or in person at the Registar’s Office. No student may add a course for credit or audit after the eleventh calendar day of the semester term. Withdrawal from a course must be accomplished through the change of registration procedure.
MBA Program Graduate Assistantship
YSU’s Graduate Assistant Program
Students who plan to enroll full-time in the MBA Program are eligible to apply for a Graduate Assistantship. This is an excellent experience for qualified graduate students who wish to broaden their academic base.
Graduate assistants are assigned to instructional, research, and/or other academic duties as determined by the department in which the assistant is appointed. Graduate assistantships, which require a 20-hour commitment each week during the academic year, are available in:
- Department of Accounting/Finance
- Department of Management
- Department of Marketing
- Small Business Development Center
Benefits afforded a graduate assistant include:
- A stipend of $7500 and remission of instructional fees, including the nonresident tuition surcharge, for up to 12 semester hours per semester.
- Participation in faculty research and instructional activities
- Association with faculty members on a one-to-one basis
- Close associations with other graduate students
- Access to a variety of professional development opportunities
Normally, assistantships are awarded for a period of two semesters, beginning with the fall semester. To remain eligible for the assistantship, an appointee must perform his/her duties satisfactorily and maintain good academic standing. An appointee must maintain enrollment in at least 18 semester hours of degree credit course work for the regular academic year and not fewer than (9) hours of degree credit course work for any one semester.
Graduate Assistant/Intern Option
A special category of graduate assistants provides opportunities for University departments, local companies, or other external sponsors to involve graduate students as graduate assistants/interns in professional experiences related to their field of study. Stipends paid may vary but start at $6000 per year.

Financial Aid
Financial Aid
Financial assistance is available to graduate students enrolled in degree programs in the form of graduate assistantships, scholarships, grant-in-aid, and federal aid. Graduate assistantships are awarded only to accepted graduate students and are usually awarded for a period of two semesters, beginning with the fall semester. Scholarships and grants-in-aid are available to a limited number of graduate students for a maximum of 4 semester hours per term, based on the following criteria: 9 semester hours of YSU graduate credit, minimum 3.6 GPA; or 6 semester hours of YSU graduate credit, 4.0 GPA.
Transient Students
Students from another graduate school attending YSU for one semester only must obtain a Transient Student Form from the YSU Graduate Studies office. This form must be completed by the Dean of the Graduate School in which the student is enrolled and returned by the college to the School of Graduate Studies of YSU. Transcripts are not required.

Through international business study tours, YSU MBA students visit businesses in other countries, and work with individuals from around the world. Students earn academic credit toward degree requirements and benefit from an experience with amazing personal and professional benefits.
In the past year, MBA students have participated in international business study tours to Hungary and The Czech Republic, Turkey, London and Dublin, and India. Each October, the University of São Paolo bring more than 40 MBA students to YSU for guest lectures and tours of businesses in the Mahoning Valley.
