The
Howard Jones Tower Society
Few
years hold as much significance in the history of Youngstown
State University as 1931. Newly constructed Jones Hall, then
Main Hall, was opened to Youngstown College studens. The first
class of generations of "Yo Co", Youngstown University
and YSU students passed under the stately gothic towers.
Also passing
under the towers that year was a newcomer to campus, Howard
Jones, who began a career of service to the institution that
spanned five decades. His vision and dedication guided the
institution through 35 years of challenges, growth and maturity
through its evolution as a state university in 1967.
The legacy
of Howard Jones and his dynamic leadership of our institution
is very much a part of campus today. Like the tradition of
excellence instilled by Howard Jones, the towers of Jones
Hall have remained through the University's expansion and
changes. The towers continue to overlook today's generation
of students, a symbol of permanence that speaks the same message
today as it did decades ago.
