Application Forms
The forms necessary to apply for admission as an international student are now available on this website as Adobe PDF documents. Several of the forms are in IPDF format (these forms are indicated by IPDF in the list below), which means that they are interactive and can be completed/printed from your computer. All of the following items must be returned in the same envelope, along with the $75 nonrefundable application fee in U.S. dollars. The check must be made payable to Youngstown State University. Address the envelope to:

Deadline to Apply for Admission

International applicants must provide all materials required at least four months prior to the semester they wish to be considered for admission.
It is recommended that all required materials be included with your application when it is submitted!
YSU enrolls students in accordance with the policy of the United States Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services (BCIS).
Complete and submit the following forms:
1. Application for Graduate Admission for International Students*. IPDF - All names provided must be full legal names only. The name used on the application must appear exactly the same on all materials, and it must be the same as it appears on your passport.
2. Graduate International Student Financial Statement Form*. IPDF – You must provide evidence of your financial support and sponsorship during the period of study at Youngstown State University, including documents of verification.
3. Summary of Educational Experiences*. IPDF – A chronological record of all schools, colleges, and universities you have attended. FAILURE TO REPORT ALL PREVIOUS COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY ATTENDANCE MAY RESULT IN CANCELLATION OF THE APPLICATION OR DISMISSAL, IF LATER DISCOVERED, WITHOUT RECOURSE OR REFUND.
The following items must also be provided:
4. $75 nonrefundable application fee in U.S. dollars. The check or money order must be made payable to Youngstown State University.
5. Official transcript(s) or mark sheets, or certified copies. If the credentials are not in English, official translations must be provided.
6. Original bank statement showing the balance in U.S. dollars.
7. The certified copy of your graduation certificate/degree stating the degree earned.
Arrange to have the following test score(s) sent to Youngstown State University:
8. TOEFL score (minimum 550 on paper-based test or 213 on computer-based test)—arrange with the Educational Testing Service to have your official TOEFL score sent to our office (ETS Code 1975). A graduate of a foreign university who is a non-native English speaker, must score a minimum of 550 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) administered by the Educational Testing Service, Princeton, New Jersey; or, score a minimum of 80 on the Michigan English Language Battery (MELAB) administered by the English Language Institute, Ann Arbor, Michigan. Prior to full admission to academic study, students are tested and placed in special English classes, if necessary, to ensure an adequate level of English proficiency.
9. MBA applicants only: GMAT score. Arrange with the Educational Testing Service to have your official GMAT score forwarded to our office (ETS Code 1975).

10. Application for a Graduate Assistantship*. IPDF – Complete this form if you wish to be
considered for an assistantship appointment at Youngstown State University.
11. Recommendation Form*. If you are applying for a graduate assistantship, three professional recommendations (i.e., from supervisors, instructors, or colleagues) are required. Print three copies of the form and forward them to the three people who will make the recommendations. Ask them to return the forms to you in sealed envelopes, so that you can submit them along with the other forms.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Admission to all programs requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, an unrecalculated undergraduate grade-point average (all grade-point averages given are unrecalculated grade-point averages) of at least 2.7 (on a 4.0 scale), 70%, or upper second class. Additional requirements for each department are:
Master of Arts in ECONOMICS
A minimum of 14 semester hours in economics, which include principles of economics and one statistics course, or preparation judged satisfactory by the department.
Master of Arts in ENGLISH
An undergraduate grade-point average of at least 2.7. An undergraduate English major or preparation judged satisfactory by the department.
Master of Arts in HISTORY
An undergraduate grade-point average of at least 2.75. A minimum of 16 semester hours of study in the field of history (this may be waived upon petition to the Department of History). In addition, each entering student is required to submit a score on the Graduate Record Examination and a graded academic writing assignment from a class.
Master of BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION - General, Finance, Management, or Marketing
An undergraduate grade-point average of at least 2.7, and a score of 460 or higher on the GMAT.
Master of Music - PERFORMANCE, MUSIC EDUCATION, MUSIC HISTORY & LITERATURE,
MUSIC THEORY & COMPOSITION, JAZZ STUDIES
An unrecalculated grade-point average of at least 2.7, or a satisfactory score on the aptitude portion of the GRE. Upon admission each student must take a placement examination in music history and music theory. Theory-Composition applicants must submit evidence of compositional or analytic activity. All performance degree applicants must audition on their principal instrument for acceptance to the appropriate applied music level. Students with major in voice performance must have completed 6 semester hours or the equivalent each of French, German, and Italian.
Master of Science in BIOLOGY
An unrecalculated Grade-point average of at least 2.7 and submission of a satisfactory GRE score. Satisfactory completion of at least 17 semester hours of undergraduate biology courses or equivalent, plus organic chemistry, introductory physics, and statistics.
Master of Science in CHEMISTRY
An undergraduate major in chemistry or its equivalent. Ordinarily this entails the completion of at least a year's study in both organic and physical chemistry.
Master of Science in CRIMINAL JUSTICE
An undergraduate grade-point average of at least a 3.0 or a 2.5 if you have a satisfactory score on the GRE or a score of 40 on the Miller Analogies Test.
Master of Science in ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES
An unrecalculated grade-point average of at least 2.7. An interview to determine program-specific, student background deficiencies, if any.
Master of Science in MATHEMATICS
An undergraduate grade-point average of at least 2.7 in all undergraduate mathematics and computer science courses. Preparation judged satisfactory by the Department. Study in theoretical analysis and algebraic structures is required.
Master of Science in Education - COUNSELING
An undergraduate grade-point average of at least a 2.7. A satisfactory score on the combined verbal and quantitative sections of the GRE, or a score of at least 40 on the Miller Analogies Test. At least three professional references and 16 undergraduate semester hours of sociology and psychology.
Master of Science in Engineering - CHEMICAL, CIVIL AND ENVIRONMENTAL, ELECTRICAL, INDUSTRIAL AND MANUFACTURING SYSTEMS, OR MECHANICAL
An undergraduate grade-point average of at least 2.75 in the courses in the field of specialized study. Undergraduate courses prerequisite to the proposed field of graduate study.
