Community College Education
Community College Education in the Mahoning Valley
On March 31, 2006, after a presentation by Bruce Beeghly, secretary of the Ohio Board of Regents, the Youngstown State University Board of Trustees determined that a formal assessment of the benefits and risks of establishing a community college should be undertaken. For the past fifteen months, YSU has explored the possibility of forming a community college in the Mahoning Valley.
To move forward with the formation of a community college, Youngstown State University determined that there must be a clear need for a community college, that there is internal and external support for a community college, and that a suitable model exists or can be created to deliver the services of a community college without damaging the economic viability of YSU.
The following links provide information about the community college initiative, the progress that has been made, recommendations to the YSU Board of Trustees, and future activities. Please contact, Nathan P. Ritchey at (330) 941-3302 or npritchey@ysu.edu for further information.
