Youngstown State University Word Mark banner 2003: a year in review
- YSU experiences seventh consecutive semester of enrollment
growth, jumping by 781 students or 6.5 percent since fall
2000. President David C. Sweet commends everyone on campus
for this upward trend.
- Planning publishes the six-page article by Thomas
A. Finnerty Jr., associate director of YSU's Center for
Urban and Regional Studies, "Youngstown Embraces Its
Future." Planning is published by the American
Planning Association and is circulated internationally to
33,000 APA members.
- The first class of YSU students enroll in the new master's
degree in social work program.
- YSU introduces new individualized curriculum program in
web communications. It is aimed at students interested in
becoming proficient in both the writing and technology aspects
of web site construction and maintenance.
President Sweet leading ribbon cutting ceremony for new courtyard apartments
The $22 million, 408-student University Courtyard Apartments are
dedicated in a festive ribbon-cutting ceremony in August.

- Gov. Bob Taft names Millicent Counts new YSU trustee for a term ending
May 1, 2012. Counts is the executive director of the United Methodist
Community Center.
- YSU launches a new program in telecommunications engineering in response
to the Federal Communications Commission mandate that all television
stations must broadcast in digital format by 2007. The two-year program
is an option under the electrical engineering technology program and
leads to an associate degree in applied science.
- Dr. David Stout of Villanova is named the Andrews Chair in Accounting,
accepting the first endowed chairman’s position at YSU.
