Testing Department

The Testing Office offers a variety of paper based national tests such as the ACT, GRE (subject only), LSAT, MCAT, PRAXIS, and MAT.  As an added service, we also administer the University’s ACT Residual test.

ACT Residual - (319) 337-1270 

The ACT Residual test is offered during the fall, spring, and summer terms.  The ACT Residual is usually taken by prospective students who have been out of high school less than two years and who wish to attend YSU.  Scores for the ACT Residual cannot be used for admission purposes to any other university.  Registration for the ACT Residual is done through the Testing Office and payment is made to the Bursar’s Office.  For more information, contact the Testing Office at (330) 941-3175.  Fee: $40.00*

CLEP

CLEP tests allow students to receive credit by examination.  Each student must consult his/her academic adviser before taking a CLEP test as each department has its own specific policies regarding the acceptance of CLEP tests as credit toward a degree.  To schedule a CLEP test, please contact Youngstown State University-Metro College at (330) 965-5800.  View YSU's Course Credit Available by Examination* for 2004-2005.

Miller Analogies Test (MAT)

The MAT is given the first Friday of every month with the exception of August.  Registration for the MAT is done through the Testing Office and payment is made to the Bursar’s Office.  For more information, contact the Testing Office at (330) 941-3175.  Fee: $75.00*

*NOTE* Registration materials for these tests are available in the literature rack outside the Testing Office located on the 1st floor of Meshel Hall, but official registration is done through the respective national testing company.

LSAT  - (215) 968-1001 

The LSAT is given four times a year.  Fee: see registration booklet or visit the LSAT website.

GRE  - (609) 771-7670 

The GRE is offered two times a year.  Fee: see registration booklet or visit the GRE website.

YSU offers only the Subject Test.

MCAT - (319) 337-1357

The MCAT is given once in the spring and once in the summer.  Fee: see registration booklet or visit the MCAT website.

PRAXIS - (609) 771-7395

The PRAXIS is usually offered six times a year.  Fee: fees vary--see registration booklet or visit the PRAXIS website.

ACT  - (319) 337-1270

The ACT is offered four times a year.  Fee: see registration booklet or visit the ACT website.


important information

If you are taking the MAT or the ACT Residual, you must register through the Testing Office. Registration for all other tests is done through the respective national company.

Photo I.D. is required for all tests.

To avoid late fees or being denied registration, please ensure that you comply with deadlines set by national testing companies and the YSU Testing Office.

The Testing Office does not offer Departmental credit by exam tests, please contact the individual Departments for these tests.
