State-affiliated metropolitan university located in Youngstown, Ohio. Founded in 1908.

The School of Graduate Studies and Research offers 34 master’s programs and a doctorate in educational leadership. YSU is also a consortium member of the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine. Non-credit courses are offered through the Office of University Outreach, and an off-campus Metropolitan College site in Boardman offers credit and non-credit classes.

Faculty:

Athletics:

Member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, Division I, Horizon League; Division 1-AA, Gateway Conference in football. YSU offers eight team sports for men and 10 team sports for women.

Admission:

Ohio residents must have graduated from a public or chartered high school with a state-approved diploma, or passed the GED. (If you are home-schooled, contact the Office of Admissions.) ACT or SAT scores are required if the applicant has been out of school for less than two years or for entry into a specific program. Non-residents must have graduated in the upper two-thirds of their high school class; or have an ACT composite score of 17 or higher or a combined SAT score of 820 or higher; or have passed the GED. Residents of Mercer and Lawrence counties in Pennsylvania are admitted under the same criteria as Ohio residents.
Admission to the University does not guarantee admission to every program.
