YSU hosts Mahoning Valley Miniature Bridge Building competition

Youngstown State University will host the Mahoning Valley Miniature Bridge Building Competition 8:15 a.m. - 3 p.m., Tuesday, February 27, 2024, in the Kilcawley Center on the YSU campus. High School students in Mahoning and Trumbull Counties have been invited to participate.

The MVMBBC competition began in 2008 with the Mahoning and Trumbull County Engineer working in collaboration with YSU. The goal of this event is to promote civil engineering as a career choice while providing students the opportunity to apply their knowledge to a real-world application.

The event involves the design and construction of a balsa wood bridge followed by a load testing until failure. The winning bridge will be chosen based on meeting the design criteria and the most efficient load carrying capacity to structure weight ratio.
