YSU students inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma

Beta Gamma SigmaYoungstown State University’s Williamson College of Business Administration installed 51 business students into Beta Gamma Sigma, during a recent induction ceremony for the college’s chapter of the world’s premier business honorary society.

Reserved exclusively for schools accredited by AACSB International ‑ The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, Beta Gamma Sigma is an international organization, with members in all 50 states and more than 190 countries around the world. Becoming a Beta Gamma Sigma member is an honor indicative of commitment, high academic achievement and leadership.

To be eligible for membership, students must be registered in Business Administration programs and be an eligible candidate for the baccalaureate or master’s degree. Students ranking in the top 10 percent of the sophomore, junior or senior classes, or the top 20 percent of the master's program are eligible for this membership.

In addition to the students, Helen Han-Haas, Distinguished Professor of Management and Marketing, was inducted as a faculty member.

William Vendemia, professor emeritus of Management and Marketing, was the keynote speaker and chapter honoree. Vendemia worked at YSU for over 40 years, retiring in 2022. Previously, he served 14 years as the advisor for the Beta Gamma Sigma YSU chapter, dedicating himself to the academic and personal development of countless students. He was awarded with the YSU Distinguished Professor Award for teaching and service and was additionally awarded as Beta Gamma Sigma Advisor of the Year in 2019.

This year represented the 25th induction class for the Beta Gamma Sigma Chapter at YSU, with over 1,132 students inducted in total. This year’s student officers are Annabelle Himes, president; and Rebecca Catlos, Cassandra Snopik, Alexander Price and Grace Economus, vice presidents. Jeong Hoon Choi, associate professor for Management and Marketing, is the chapter advisor.

Founded as a national organization on February 19, 1913, Beta Gamma Sigma now comprises more than 950,000 members and top business leaders. While almost 350,000 students receive bachelor's or master's degrees in business each year, only about 25,000 are inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma.
